10th rd KO by Fullmer for NBA world title in 1961. Paret was the reigning welt champ. Fullmer really goes for it in a completely different style than the forced respect he had to give SRRobinson a few fights before. One of the most violent, vicious KOs you'll ever see if not the most.

3 months later Paret defends his title against Griffith, goes 12 in another vicious fight and loses his life in his final slump on the canvas. There is a current controversial Griffith bio that addresses this time,
His last 4 fights are against Griffith, Griffith, Fullmer, Griffith, and the only one that goes the distance is the 2nd Griffith title match where the Kid regains his welt title. 1-3, 3 KO loses in 4 HOF title matches, a hard way to go out.
We hail the recent Margarito/Cotto fight, but such was the routine kind of fight back then. Refs broke less often, and you either learned to fight inside or suffer. Fullmer shows uncanny speed, not an attribute he's noted for.
Boxing was truly a blood sport back then. Quite a bit different today. |

| I don't find that KO all that shocking - just impressed with he swarming qualities of Fullmer - the thing that madre him a nightmare for Robinson. The fatal Paret KO is one of the most stomach churning things I've seen ina ring - even if he hadn't died, it's a horrible, horrible finish. |
