No, not Nick_Viking's favourite feathered punchbag.

With Calzaghe ducking Pavlik, and Khan ducking..... well anyone decent I suppose, I thought a thread on ducking might be appropriate.

Who are the three biggest 'duckers' and why? (Post war/modern era)

Sven Ottke - refused to fight anyone unless he could arrange the result in advance.

Jack Dempsey ducking Harry Wills - Dempsey's promoter/managers are often blamed but that seems convenient. I know there was pressure to make the fight happen but it fell mainly on deaf ears.

Rocky Marciano ducking Nino Valdes - a 2 year period between 53 and 55, where Marciano could have met Valdes and chose not too, instead fighting Ezzard Charles twice when Valdes had already beaten Charles in the same period.

'Chicken' Bowe throwing a belt away to avoid Lennox Lewis. This after it had been agreed that the winners of Ruddock vs Lewis and Holyfield vs Bowe would meet next - I think all apart from Bowe would have kept to this. Instead Bowe defended the title against veterans Michael Dokes and Jesse Ferguson.

Nobody knows who, of the above, would have won and that's a great shame that we never found out.

Amir Khan is an obvious choice today as he called out John Thaxton who wanted the fight and Khan went quiet.

Sven Ottke ignored offers to fight Joe Calzaghe and happily defended his belt without taking the risk

I dont think Joe is ducking Pav, I just reckon he is looking for 1 big fight without Warren leeching from him and RJJ is thee man who dominated boxing in the era where Joe fought and history will me kinder on Joe for fighting and beating Jones rather than beating Pav.

Joe was told by the boxing world (outside the UK) that Lacy was the main man and he'd do well to last to the final bell and once he beat him his win has been discredited from many angles, is it any wonder he is reluctant to face another relatively new champion? He is going out in style by beating (well fighting lol) someone who needs NO introduction and if anyone claims afterwrds that Roy was an old man then at least Joe can say he was no spring chicken himself.

I still believe however that Joe will be happy to come out of a short retirement to face Pav if the cash is right.

I also believe that id B-HOP is even close to as good as he was 4 or 5 years ago that Kelly will be beaten soon anyway (unless we see a repeat of Pac v JMM 2 and the judges award the marketable guy the win regardless ooooooooh ;) )
