I was always a glutton for a good scrap though and it was a good one. I like Sir Henry as a personality better even though hes all wet and all over the map regarding recollections of the first Ali/Cooper fight. Bugs seems to have adopted the Cooper method of recall as well, bringing up old controversies after playing nice on a previous reconciliation interview with the two. Keeps em both in the news I guess.

I had Bugs ahead 6-3-6 against Cooper, so 6 even rounds in my scoring guarantees a controversy. I also noticed the announcer was a sniffy sort grossly prejudiced for Coop the first few rounds, then grossly overestimating Bugs subsequent dominance, and then giving the last half of the fight all to Coop in spite of most rounds being close and hard to score.

Bugs was better against Lyle and was robbed outright, but I have so say that Bugs biggest strike against him is that he fought as a technical boxer without any fire and was prone to extended periods of laziness where he only just barely did enough to stay even with an opponent he held most every advantage over.

Ill go further, saying his physical attributes level was near the same attributes with Ali with more technical skills, but mentally he was not in the same league as the big 3 of Ali, Frazier, and Foreman. Norton was also there in physical talent and skills, but his mental failings were a fragile self belief in himself. Heck of a nice guy though.

Add in Quarry and maybe even Lyle who did quite well for a late start with the tremendous adversity he overcame, and this era highlights the way the mental aspects of boxing play the final role in separating great careers from very good careers.

Already seen all but the Dunn fight, but still a big shout to you for passing on invaluable links.

The UK is a signatory to the 1951 United Nations Convention in the Status and Treatment of Refugees. Unless we start to withdraw from International Conventions we are stuck with it.

By the way, countries such as Iran, North Korea, Syria, Saudi Arabia are not signatories, maybe we ought to lump our lot in with them eh?? Sounds like they have the right idea???

And your point is what, exactly? The USA, New Zealand, Egypt (hell, that would be a logical place for many!) and Australia are also signatories or contracting parties (in the case of the USA, to the 1967 protocol) but the UK gets FAR more than its share, especially when considering area and population.

After Germany and Spain, the UK takes in more immigrants than anywhere else in Europe. I wouldnt mind guessing after more stringent German laws in the mid 2000s, that the UK are ahead and Spains population is a good fifteen to twenty million less than ours despite a much larger area. Factor in also that the UK is pretty bad at removing those it sees fit to throw out (on illegal immigration)...

isnt maidana a champion as well? shouldnt he be facing his mandatories rather than signing for someone like cayo before khans signed up for anyone?

this situation is the easiest to see into in boxing. khan and maidana are being kept apart to build their profiles before they fight because maidana has a punchers chance and no more. it makes the utmost sense for maidana to stay away from khan, as hell be schooled and his earning potential goes south.

Maidana is the INTERIM champion to Khans belt, he wont have any mandatories

regardless of who wins between both fighters, both will make a lot more money in 6-12 months time.

They both have a combined ONE fight in the USA, and thats where theyll be fighting most likely. Getting them both some exposure on that soil will equal more money down the line.

Instead of being an undercard on HBO, it may headline HBO, or be a PPV undercard.

Its just good promoting by GBP.

EDINBURGH boxer Kenny Anderson is under no illusions about the importance of his bout at the St Andrews Sporting Club in Glasgow tonight.

The super-middleweight contender takes on Patrick Mendy ahead of a proposed British title eliminator against Liverpools Carl Dilks.

Anderson, who weighed in yesterday just one pound heavier than Mendy at 12st 2lb said: "I know that I simply cant afford to lose to him.

"I want a British title eliminator with Dilks so I must win tonight."

Yes, I realise thats its not Khan that makes these decisions but the step aside money and wall of advisors that are building a baracade around Amirs chin are a scourge on the sport.

It was a disappointing fight but theres very little that Clottey could do to make it more competitive. His style is cover up and hit back when the opponent has stopped punching. Manny wasnt there to be hit enough, Clottey could never get set to get enough work done to make it interseting and he got pummeled.

Lets remember that noone has doen that to Clottey and hes been in with as many top guys at the weight as would face him. He was very competitive with Margarito and Cotto but Manny humiliated him.

Once Mayweather has feasted on the corpse of Mosely well hopefully see the most logical match up in our lifetimes, well my lifetime anyhow.

what about if his promoters say something along the lines of look marcos, youre a limited puncher who upset the applecart by beating ortiz, and youve not got too long at the top. we could put you in with khan now, but lets face facts, youre a points loss waiting to happen. indeed, the only people desperate to see this fight happen right now are all on a small british website called boxingbanter.com, and theyre not going to make you a million dollars on their own. so, well keep you and khan apart, for now, and get you to sign with someone you can just beat up, like victor cayo. khan will deal with malignaggi, and then we can really start to sell it. you can either fight khan now and lose, or fight khan later for more than double that. what do you think?

The build up of the fight was huge considering that Manny carried the promotions on his back. Credit also goes to Arum and Jughaid Jones who seized the opportunity to innaugurate what is being now touted as the best boxing venue in the world.

Manny had no need to rely on cheesy 7th grade tussles with Clottey for promotions like Floydy and Mosley seem to need. The gulf in class between the two promotions is huge. The Event vs Who R U Picking is a laughable comparison.

Manny carried the fight also, and when was the last time Floydy was able to carry any fight in the ring?

Clottey was very dangerous in the 12th round with Manny running out of pace and landed some good uppercuts and left hooks. He was never, ever in a 1000 bouts gonna win a decision, so he played his one ace card that wasnt enough.

I dont see Floydy doing much better than Clottey except for a few meaningless popcorn counters tacked on to the numbers. His defense requires more energy output which makes him less a threat than Clottey was late.

Floydy has blown 2 consecutive opportunities to make a fight with Manny, so theres his defensive strategy. He cant be beat because he wont fight anyone. He could never carry the promotions of a Clottey fight in Cowboy stadium as Manny has just done.

Hes relying on the 2nd resurrection of a near 40 yr old Mosley in his last flickers of light. More likely Oscar and Ricky rematches than a Manny matchup since they have that well ripened smell about them that Floydy like any scavenging coyote is so fond of.

I didnt name you specifically to spare blushes, but you went ahead and named yourself as the tool who was telling everyone that Pac/Clottey was 2010s answer to Rumble in the Jungle. Hows that prediction working out for you, mr clever clogs?!

Instead of churning out another essay about "Floydy" (ho ho), you could always stun people with a bit of humility and type something short about how last nights fight was an anti-climax and a bit of a let down. Particularly seeing as you huffed and puffed more than anyone about how superb it was going to be.

I think it was a let down but dont blame Pacquiao for that. The Mayweather fight may be a letdown also... it MAY be. But we havent had that fight yet, so I think its weird why youve once again constructed a whole post about Mayweather on a thread about Pacquiao and his fight with Clottey. I wonder if Mayweather thinks of you as much as you think of him!
