No idea, probably asked for too much but Teddy didn't say.

Vitali's fights are getting steadily worse. Wish he'd just retire tbh.

i know it's only boxrec, but briggs is currently ranked two places below larry olubamiwo.

just thought i'd get that in before the expected calls of 'well, there's no-one better to fight, better to fight anyone than no-one' nonsense.

Shannon the Cannon...dear oh dear.

Mind you one of my favourite clips of all time is from his fight with Lewis. I think it was the knock down at the end of the 4th. Briggs lands a solid jab then misses swinging left and right hooks...then there is just a split second pause where you can see Lewis almost shake his head then bang right hook, Briggs staggers back then straight right, left right...knockdown!

Now as for this fight, too little too late from VK, SB is used to be tank and a serious contender but now he is well passed it.

He'll have had to face a WBC ranked fighter presumeably, Briggs is #9. Also Boxrec ratings are a well established joke, the IBO rank him at #49 though (no ranking for Muscles on head Larry)

WBC-Top 15 for reference
1. Odlanier Solis-FREE
2. Nicolay Valuev-Negotiations broke down
3. Alexander Povetkin-Engaged against Wlad
4. Denis Boytsov-FREE
5. Tomasz Adamek-Engaged against Grant
6. Derric Rossy-FREE
7. Johnathon Banks-Is promoted by K2 East I think
8. Samuel Peter-Beaten by Vit and Wlad, though in line for an IBF fight
9. Shannon Briggs*
10. Tony Thompson-FREE, though has been dominated by Wlad
11.Chris Arreola-Dominated by Vit, beaten by Adamek and is to fight Manuel Quezada
12. Siarhei Liakhovich-FREE
13. Juan Carlos Gomez-FREE, dominated by Vit recently though
14. Albert Sosnowski-Stopped by Klits
15. Jason Gavern-FREE, 1-2-1 in his last 4 however

Not exactly defending it just pointing out that the opponent will almost certainly need to be WBC ranked as Haye doesn't want the fight and it won't be against Wlad.

I saw mentioned earlier that the reason Briggs could be in is the US angle. HBO drop the Klitschko's but if they fight someone like Briggs who is still marketable and a name to US fans then he seems a good choice as a voluntary.

On the Valuev issue, I believe Nikolai turned down 2.5 mill but then wanted to accept a month or so later so Vitalii offered him a mill less and said something like "If you don't accept then next time it will be even less"

Forget Valuev then, but I would've been happy with Solis... or Boystov/Rossy.

I don't think Shannon will get them back on HBO. Valuev would've been fine to, but if the guy doesn't accept the good money what can you do?

Solis is the mandatory, so he will get his chance next spring. Shannon is brash, colourful and supposedly hard hitting.

Out of interest how much more do HBO pay than Showtime? The next Wlad fight is off to Showtime, do they just pick up the cheaper scraps?

HBO pays more.... figure wise, I can't really specify but let me try to toss out some examples.

Bradley-Peterson had a total purse of 575 000. That's pretty damn low, I'm expecting Bradley to get more then that for his fight against Abregu.

Wlad is not fighting on Showtime though, they can't fight that weekend the same weekend that the expected Lopez-Marquez fight would take place. But the Wlad-Povetkin fight would be happening the day before. I think for Showtime to pick it up, they must believe that it's worth showing I guess.

Pretty sad state of affairs that the two people that have been in negotiations to fight the number two ranked Heavyweight are Briggs & Valuev.

Those ratings above, how up to date are they?

The reason I ask is that Audley Harrison winning the European title instantly gives him a top 10 or 15 rating. When Harrison gave up the belt Eddie Hearn mentioned that he had done so on the understanding that the WBC would keep his ranking therefore assisting him in getting a title shot.

He doesnt apear on that list though.
