Floyd Mayweather Junior on facing 'Sugar' Shane Mosley:

    FMJ:
"I guess Bernard Hopkins told Shane Mosley to get in the ring
and be disrespectful but like I said before, Shane Mosley is a good
fighter, I wish him nothing but the best in his career and the only
thing I want to do is continue to be the best I can be in my career.
In 1999, we tried to fight Shane 10 years ago and he turned the fight
down and then in 2006 when he fought Fernando Vargas, right after
the fight he said he had a toothache and he wanted to go on vacation
with his family. I guess now that he's 38 and his career is coming to
an end and everybody knows they can make huge money with Floyd
Mayweather, everybody is shooting shots at me. But I wish Shane
Mosley nothing but the best in his career."

Mayweather on facing Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto winner:

    FMJ:
"They're both good fighters but it's not about the money, it's for the
love of the sport. I love the sport of boxing but of course it's got to make
business sense. I just want to keep fighting. Leonard (Ellerbe) and Al
(Heyman) handle my business outside the ring and when it's time to get
inside that square circle that's when I take care of my business."

The only part of that worth reading is the number 38. If the money is right, of course he'll fight him. Another easy win against an old man hyped up to the hilt. Mosley ain't Hopkins. He'll try and fight, and be made to look stupid.

Mosley needs to prove his Margarito victory was't a fluke before he gets a chance at Mayweather. And 'everyone's taking shots at me'? That's what happens when you're the best- other fighters want to fight the best. Obviously this is new to Floyd.

I'm glad Mayweather is talking down a Mosley fight, for reasons I said the other day in the Mayorga thread:

This has always been a non starter.

Its all about giving Mayweather & GBP the best possible negotiating stance for Pacman & HBO respectively.

I remember Floyd trying to get a fight with Mosley in 1999. Floyd had just won the WBC junior lightweight title and Shane was moving up to welterweight following a couple of years of struggling to make lightweight, so it was never likely to happen.

If fighters fought more often like they used to, and didn't just think about PPV numbers all the time, then this fight would probabaly have taken place years ago.
