Promoter Hatton buoyant on eve of first televised SKY show

By Ben Carey

Ricky Hatton has lavished praise on his rapidly expanding stable ahead of Hatton Promotions’ inaugural live SKY Sports show which will feature Matthew Macklin’s vacant European middleweight title challenge against Amin Asikainen in the main event at the Manchester Velodrome this Friday.

Hatton, who has persuaded some of the brightest talent in the country to join his embryonic promotional team, was full of praise for his recent signings who will appear in action tomorrow night.

Matthew Macklin (middleweight) – “Expect another exciting fight from Matthew. He is powerful and improving all the time. Success on Friday will have him knocking on the door of a world title fight.”

Mark Thompson (welterweight) – “Improving all the time, ranked in the top 10 British welterweights Mark is ready to be let off the leash; He is an exciting boxer puncher.”

Scott Quigg (super-bantamweight) – “Exciting come forward fighter, just back from training at Freddie Roach’s Wildcard gym in Los Angeles. Scott is a popular fighter with a large following and is another top 10 ranked British fighter who will be knocking on the door for a title.”

Martin Murray (middleweight) – “Very popular fighter with a big following, He recently won the Prizefighter series and showed what he is made of. Another champion in the making and one to watch out for.”

Rhys Roberts (super-bantamweight) – “Rhys has every punch in the book and is both good in attack and defence. A bright future head.”

Graeme Higginson (light-welterweight) – “Popular local fighter with a big following has fought away from home and been disadvantaged as the ‘opponent’. Lost a couple of close decisions but is back in winning form.”

Anthony Crolla (super-featherweight) – “Good all rounder, lots of ability and improving all the time, a future champion.”

Denton Vassell (welterweight) – “Denton has been training in our gym for the past month. I’ve been very impressed with his dedication and attitude. Bob Shannon speaks very highly of him and I think he can go all the way”

Joe Murray (bantamweight) – “Olympian-experienced beyond his years. He can punch and box and has a tremendous left hook to the body.”

Hatton Promotions has also added former English lightweight champion Scott Lawton to their ranks and reigning British and Commonwealth cruiserweight champion Rob Norton to their ranks.

Think this will be a good one, I've went for Macklin by ko, Amin has the experience but is a bit fragile so can see him being stopped after halfway.
