I just don't understand it. John Ruiz' last fight was about a year and a half ago in which he LOST a challenge for the vacant WBA heavyweight title. He has done nothing since. How can he suddenly become mandatory challenger for that title? Surely he has to atleast fight in some kind of an eliminator first? What about other heavyweights who are fighting and are winning in the meantime being snubbed by the WBA in favour of Ruiz? _________________ `

Forget the Guardian - I've been posting this for weeks. He took step aside money so that Haye would get a shot so it is plain that the winner would then have to fight him.
Ruiz fights on the undercard against a fighter he should beat. _________________

The only small chance we might not see him again is if he loses his fight on the undercard.
Valuev Ruiz (3?) is a fight noone is interested in by any means.
Haye, if he wins, will be the only challenger left for the Klits, and should be fighting them looking for a unification of some sort.
Ruiz is a waste of time, and I still dont know how the hell he managed to become a mandatory by losing!?!
This is corrupt to the highest degree imo _________________

Same here with Rob, always thought there was extremely fishy about how quickly Team Ruiz shuts up quickly after having a hissy fit for a week threating to release the lawyers, etc.
Oh well, his funeral. _________________

ruiz has actually been handed four different world title fights in his life as a challenger. valuev II, rahman, holyfield II and holyfield I. a couple of strange things abound in his career, made even more unusual by the fact that he has, by consensus, a shite, unappealing, boring style, no fans and nothing to offer the sport. after losing his first fight with holyfield, his next fight was an immediate crack at the world title he'd just lost. after he lost to roy jones, he was immediately put straight into a fight with hasim rahman for the world title. and after losing to valuev the first time, he was put straight into an eliminator with ruslan chagaev, (which he lost as well), but that didn't seem to matter as two fights later, (against otis tisdale and jameel mccline), he was granted yet another world title fight.
now, after he gets past the rank outsider he faces on saturday, (a 19-10-1 guy who danny williams pasted over three years ago), he'll get his fifth crack at the heavyweight title.
compare that with david tua. an exciting knockout artist, with stoppage wins over michael moorer, hasim rahman, oleg maskaev and the aforementioned ruiz, in less than 30 seconds. only three defeats, all to good opposition. title shots: one.
just goes to show what a difference certain promoters make. |

When I read "you know who.." I immediately thought of our mate Audley. I have got some drink inside me by the way. If Haye wins, Ruiz is a good first defence. If Valuev wins, forget Ruiz let the big man breathe all over Harrison. |

“I’m very happy that my fight is going to be on pay per view in North America. My fans and media there haven’t been able to watch my last few fights because they weren’t televised there. They think I still fight the same way (clutch-and-grab), but I’m much more aggressive, and now they’ll be able to see how much I’ve improved. I’ve been working hard the past three months with my new head trainer, Miguel Diaz, and assistant (former WBA bantamweight) Richie Sandoval. Somewhere along the line, I got away from the basics, and we’ve been working in that area. I had been leaning in and landing too close to my opponent, which resulted in a lot of clutching and grabbing. We’ve improved my style; I’m more aggressive now, moving more and getting hit less.”
okay fans??? plural?
he said the same thing when he fought McCline... Miguel Diaz will definitely be different but a tiger can't change it's stripes. |

Ruiz should be made to fight an eliminator against David Tua. _________________
